SAVE YOUR SKIN FROM HUMID WEATHER WITH 5-EASY STEPS

While most of us love summer (hello, sunshine, beaches and breezy cocktails!), we're definitely not a fan of everything the hot season, aka humidity, can do to our skin.

As the humidity goes up and we start to sweat, our sebaceous glands start to pump out extra oil. Whilst this extra oil can be a gift for eczema, it can also lead to breakout disasters. AND this summer we have the added bonus of mandatory mask-wearing which adds a new level of stress to our already exhausted skin.

This excess of natural oils mixed with dead skin cells on the top layer of our skin is a major cause of clogged pores, acne, blemishes and general skin congestion. While you cannot control the humidity, you can modify your skincare routine to help protect your skin.

Below are my 5 clear skin tips for humid weather

1. Deep Cleanse

Lashings of Sunscreen is a non-negotiable but it's equally important to remove it completely by thoroughly cleansing morning and night. Your skin will feel refreshed, clean and clear.  An appropriate, oil-based cleanser is the only way to thoroughly remove waterproof sunscreen. QED have two oil-based cleansers, Clarify Shake to Activate Cleanser & Ultra-Sensitive Treatment Cleaning Oil which will do the job whilst protecting your skin at the same time.

2. Exfoliate More

Make sure to exfoliate away all the dead skin cells that can build up from summer activities, party makeup & sunscreen use.  In summer, I recommend using an exfoliator 3-4 times a week to remove debris build-up. This will improve skin clarity and help halt breakouts in their tracks.

3. Lighten up your moisturiser

Moisturising your skin is a crucial step in your skincare routine, all year round. With high humidity however, your skin's own oil production increases, which means that you need to use a lighter moisturiser.  But don't skip moisturising in summer. Although your skin may appear to be less in need of moisturising, its still essential that you keep it well hydrated, especially at night when your skin is in repair mode.

4. Keep a face mist handy

face mist is a great quick fix to help keep excess shine at bay.  An instant trick to reduce excess oiliness, I recommend the QED Balancing Facial Mist to keep your skin balanced any time and any place. Keep a bottle in your bag and with just a few sprays, your skin will feel the calming and balancing effects of the Neroli & Bergamot. Oh and yes it smells sooooo delicious.

5. Choose a sunscreen right for your skin type

There are so many different sunscreens available and it's hard to know which is the best for your skin type. The three keys with sunscreen use are:

  • Choose a good-quality, broad-spectrum product.
  • Apply a lot of it. I recommend 1 x full teaspoon for your face & approximately 2 full tablespoons for your body.
  • Re-apply every 2-3 hrs.

If you're not sure which sunscreen is right for you, ask your Pharmacist.

Finally, ALWAYS keep yourself well hydrated in the summer months (especially as you enjoy those delicious cocktails!) Your skin will definitely thank you for it!
