DOES YOUR SKIN WORK WHILE YOU SLEEP?

With Body Slugging it does!

As the temperature drops, you may notice the skin on your body feels dry, scaly and even itchy. You may notice that your moisturiser seems to disappear into your skin.

For those with sensitive skin, and even for those with robust skin, you may have noticed flare-ups of eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis or just irritated skin when you wake up in the morning.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog about the benefits of “Slugging, QED-Style” and the article went viral. This article referred to the benefits of slugging for your face.  “Slugging” being the unflattering but curiously apt description of applying a thick layer of the Ultra-Sensitive Face Balm, to your face before bed.  The result is that you wake up with soft, plump, happy skin. The ingredients in the Ultra-Sensitive Face Balm have been selected as they are gentle enough to be used for even Ultra-Sensitive skin but deliver a huge hydration pay out for anyone with dry skin.

As I got out of the bath the other night, and patted myself dry in preparation for a good lathering of Body Cream, it occurred to me that you need to “Slug” your body too!  The practice of Slugging is actually equally as important for the Body as it is for your face, QED-style of course, especially as the weather changes and our bodies crave longer-lasting hydration.

So, although I have been advocating this process for years - we now have a catchy name for it - Body Slugging!

WHAT IS BODY SLUGGING?

Body Slugging is the application of a thick layer of Ultra-sensitive Body Balm to your body (ideally following exfoliation) just before bed.  This process allows the Jojoba Oil, Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter to deeply penetrate the skin whilst you sleep.  And you wake up to soft, nourished and noticeably happier skin.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU BE BODY SLUGGING?

Body Slugging using the Ultra-Sensitive Body Balm is a great pick-me-up for Dry skin and can be done whenever time allows.  In winter, I Body Slug at least twice a week.

Although Slugging is a practice you can adopt all year round, it is especially beneficial during the cold, less humid winter months that leave your skin feeling dry, irritated and dull.

BODY SLUGGING 1,2,3

STEP 1 - EXFOLIATE

Before bed, exfoliate your body from your neck to your feet paying special attention to those extra dry areas like elbows, knees, heels and feet.

STEP 2 - APPLY THE ULTRA SENSITIVE BODY BALM

Before you hop into bed, apply a thick layer of the Ultra-Sensitive Body Balm all over your body.  The product will not penetrate your skin immediately and will feel a little greasy.  That is the plan!  Apply more to drier areas like heels, feet, knees, elbows and hands.

As you sleep, this pure-oil product will absorb completely into your skin, (not your sheets).  Benefits include: Super-soft, plumped skin.  Dewy Skin. Richly-hydrated skin, which is less prone to irritation.

This process also helps build your skin barrier that gets damaged during colder months.

OUR SPECIAL PHARMACIST'S TIP

For ultimate hydration of your hands and feet, apply a thick layer of the Ultra-Sensitive Body Balm and then cocoon your hands in cotton gloves and feet in cotton socks (popping on the gloves is also a handy trick to keep your hands available).  This speeds up the absorption, pushing moisture deep into your hands and feet. You will feel the difference!

STEP 3 - THE NEXT MORNING

When you wake up in the morning you will feel a noticeable difference in your skin. It will feel soft and well hydrated.  Moisturise your body as normal after bathing. You will need to use less and less regular moisturiser as your skin's baseline hydration increases.
